Movie: Henry Poole is Here

I just saw this new movie last night. What a great movie! I will definitely take my teens to see this. When is the last time that you could say that?

This movie is about faith, both for those who have it and those who lack it. Faith sometimes finds us even when we become desperate enough to hide from it! Very well done!

Here is another excellent example of faithful people making an impact on our society. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: change the media and you can change our culture.

Media goes a long way in determining culture. So very, very true. I believe that many of the problems in colleges today stem from the fact that those same children grew up with a steady diet of "Friends" and other shows/movies/videos idealizing casual and interchangeable relationships.

Absolutely true, Alice! But our hope is that our children, raised in the true faith, will grow up and desire to impact our culture even more by tackling the media head on, and making more movies (and television, and theater) like this one! What an opportunity for them, and what a responsibility for us!

Tonight once again I had the joy of experiencing the power of live theater. It was absolutely breathtaking! Man of La Mancha is playing at The Engeman Theater in Northport, Long Island until August 3rd. I'm not going to write a review because, unless you live on Long Island, you probably won't be able to see it. Which is a pity, because I haven't been so moved by a performance in a very long, long time!! Everyone in the audience gave the show a well-deserved standing ovation! I'm glad I didn't take my younger sons to see it. There were some scenes containing choreographed violence and sexual innuendo. The script places us in a veritable den of thieves and murderers. Ch ch ch ch changes

Change is in the wind, it seems. My two oldest boys this week were accepted into their first choice college : Franciscan University at Steubenville. I am already beginning to grieve their absence, and it won't be for months yet! I'm writing the study guides for our educational theater , partly thanks to this blog and to the article in Mater et Magistra. I love incorporating our homeschooling techniques into a guide written to help classroom teachers incorporate the arts into their curriculum! It seems as everything has come full circle. I guess homeschooling for all these years has come in handy......!! Our new theater group, The John Paul II Repertory Theater, has offically been born.
