Composer for the Week: Antonio Vivaldi

I just wanted to post on the success so far of my Composer for the Week idea!

I've been playing Vivaldi for two days, and the kids really like it! I am so thrilled! Joseph was even humming along with one of the Concertos as he played on the floor with his toys! Robert commented on how peaceful the house seemed with the music playing in the background!

I am so encouraged by this that I just wanted to share. I am definitely going to keep doing this!

The Power of Live Theater

Tonight once again I had the joy of experiencing the power of live theater. It was absolutely breathtaking! Man of La Mancha is playing at The Engeman Theater in Northport, Long Island until August 3rd. I'm not going to write a review because, unless you live on Long Island, you probably won't be able to see it. Which is a pity, because I haven't been so moved by a performance in a very long, long time!! Everyone in the audience gave the show a well-deserved standing ovation! I'm glad I didn't take my younger sons to see it. There were some scenes containing choreographed violence and sexual innuendo. The script places us in a veritable den of thieves and murderers. Ch ch ch ch changes

Change is in the wind, it seems. My two oldest boys this week were accepted into their first choice college : Franciscan University at Steubenville. I am already beginning to grieve their absence, and it won't be for months yet! I'm writing the study guides for our educational theater , partly thanks to this blog and to the article in Mater et Magistra. I love incorporating our homeschooling techniques into a guide written to help classroom teachers incorporate the arts into their curriculum! It seems as everything has come full circle. I guess homeschooling for all these years has come in handy......!! Our new theater group, The John Paul II Repertory Theater, has offically been born.
