Why am I doing this?

I keep asking myself this. Why, when there's always so many urgent things that constantly demand my attention, would I feel the need to give myself yet another plate to spin? Why?

I think it's because I have something to share with other artists, other homeschoolers, other teachers. Because I believe in the value of arts education, and I believe that it should be offered to every child. Because of the passion I feel for the arts, and the exhilaration that a child experiences when he's created something of his very own!

God has given us all different gifts, different talents. And He definitely isn't stingy with His gifts either! We each have a multitude, if only we would look deep enough.

For whatever reason, this is my gift, my first love for as long as I can remember. And this is what I must share.

Welcome to the blogging world! I am so excited about what you have to share- it is so easy to push arts to the side of our busy days and your blog is heartening to make it a priority again!

The Power of Live Theater

Tonight once again I had the joy of experiencing the power of live theater. It was absolutely breathtaking! Man of La Mancha is playing at The Engeman Theater in Northport, Long Island until August 3rd. I'm not going to write a review because, unless you live on Long Island, you probably won't be able to see it. Which is a pity, because I haven't been so moved by a performance in a very long, long time!! Everyone in the audience gave the show a well-deserved standing ovation! I'm glad I didn't take my younger sons to see it. There were some scenes containing choreographed violence and sexual innuendo. The script places us in a veritable den of thieves and murderers. Ch ch ch ch changes

Change is in the wind, it seems. My two oldest boys this week were accepted into their first choice college : Franciscan University at Steubenville. I am already beginning to grieve their absence, and it won't be for months yet! I'm writing the study guides for our educational theater , partly thanks to this blog and to the article in Mater et Magistra. I love incorporating our homeschooling techniques into a guide written to help classroom teachers incorporate the arts into their curriculum! It seems as everything has come full circle. I guess homeschooling for all these years has come in handy......!! Our new theater group, The John Paul II Repertory Theater, has offically been born.
